Priwall

The Priwall between the Baltic Sea and the Trave River has belonged to Lübeck since 1226. It is a very special place of unspoiltness and originality. Numerous protected plants grow here. Rare species rest and breed in the bird sanctuary, and beach rye and buckthorn grow between the dunes and the forest.

For a long time, Priwall was used only as a cattle pasture until the 19th century, when a bathing establishment for locals was built here parallel to the fashionable spa. In the meantime, aircraft and shipyard industries settled here, but for more than 50 years Priwall has once again belonged to nature.

NördlicherPriwall: Beach & Dunes
If you are looking for something more quiet and secluded, it is best to take the passenger ferry to Priwall - there you will find the original natural beach with gentle dunes and adjacent woodland. In addition, this is the best place for families with small children, because especially on Priwall the beach slopes gently and the tots can safely splash in the shallow water. Little adventurers are sure to find fun in the local shells, whether to decorate the sandcastle, as a souvenir to take home or as a gift for mom. Baltic flat shells, sand clams, mussels and cockles are waiting to be found.

In 2013, Travemünde beaches were awarded the red banner for safety by the International Life Saving Federation of Europe (ILSE). This means that they meet the requirements for a safe beach and are guarded by lifeguards.

Priwall also has a nudist area, beach chair and boat rentals, and a dog beach.

Südlicher Priwall: Feuchtwiese Nature Reserve
A true paradise for many animal species is the 30-acre meadow in the middle of the nature reserve: as a so-called "wet meadow," it contains numerous wet areas and tiny tarns (ponds) - the perfect habitat for tree frogs, grass snakes and dragonflies. You can also observe bats, lapwings, redshanks and wagtails here.
