The memorial plaque commemorates the homosexuals persecuted and deported by the Nazis.
Detailed description
As only one of eight international memorial plaques of its kind, the memorial in the "Parade" between the Zeughaus and Haus der Kulturen in Lübeck's city center commemorates the homosexuals persecuted and deported by the Nazis in the years 1933-1945. In Lübeck, a total of 230 gay men were arrested on January 23, 1937, tortured and sentenced in the Zeughaus, some of whom were deported to concentration camps. The cast-iron memorial plaque created by Erich Lethgau was unveiled in 2016 and has been a reminder of the cruel treatment of people of other sexualities by the National Socialists ever since.
