The "first address" in Travemünde is the broad curved spa beach and the beach promenade.
It is constantly growing and every year more than a centimetre is added - the spa beach of Travemünde.
New sand is continuously being washed up from the Brodten steep bank, making the spa beach as wide as a football field in the meantime, with plenty of space for everyone: for the beach volleyball stars, for football aces, for sandcastle fans, for sun worshippers and beach runners. In 2013, Travemünde's beaches were awarded the red banner for safety by the International Life Saving Federation of Europe (ILSE). This means that they meet the requirements for a safe beach and are guarded by lifeguards.
