The Easter festival for the whole family

Ostermünde in Travemünde from 29th March - 1st April 2024

Welcome to Ostermünde

The seaside resort of Travemünde starts spring with a colourful Easter festival for the whole family. For four whole days, everything in Brügmanngarten park revolves around the Easter Bunny and his friends, both big and small. The Easter bunny himself will visit the Brügmanngarten and will make fun paint activities with the children, tell exciting Easter stories and play sack race and egg and spoon race. The musical program will make the family-friendly offer round. The Brügmanngarten is transformed on Easter Saturday and Sunday into an exciting adventure paradise for children.

What happens at the Easter fire in Travemünde?

Luftaufnahme des großen Osterfeuers

The Easter fire is an atmospheric, convivial highlight of “Ostermünde”, the Easter festival in Travemünde, and it is lit directly on the beach right next to Brügmanngarten. Every year, hundreds of people visit the resort to experience this exciting ritual with the onset of darkness, with live music and good spirits. People stand in a big circle around the crackling fire and together enjoy the flaming fun. Hot and cold drinks by the warming fire and tasty barbecued snacks provide for a cosy atmosphere on the beach. We owe thanks to Travemünde’s Volunteer Fire Service watching over the Easter fire and to farmer Kröger for the wood!

What happens on the Giant Egg Parade in Travemünde?

Weeks before the Easter festival, you can feel the atmosphere of fevered activity in Travemünde. Hotels, beach chair hire companies, restaurants and associations are busy preparing for the annual Giant Egg Parade on the long Easter weekend. As “egg patrons”, they work with neighbours, children and holiday-makers to paint, glue, spray and dye “their” giant, two-metre eggs to decorate them for the parade. The more colourful and creative, the better!

When the time finally arrives on Easter Sunday, the patrons together with their decorated eggs take part in a long parade through Travemünde – ringed by enthusiastic spectators at the roadside. The route leads from the cruise terminal on Vorderreihe via Trave and Strandpromenade to Brügmanngarten where the round works of art are lined up like pearls on a string and where they can be admired until Easter Monday. The egg parade is led by the Easter bunny in person, with the musical accompaniment of a cheerful brass band. Welcome to Ostermünde!
