Description
Discover pure Old Town flair in the alleyways and courtyards of the Cathedral quarter!
Welcome to Lübeck's picturesque Cathedral Quarter, where hidden passageways and idyllic squares characterize today's cityscape around the impressive cathedral. Henry the Lion had the majestic cathedral built here in the south of the Old Town island, the foundation stone of which was laid in 1173. After its consecration in 1247 in honour of the patron saints John the Baptist and Nicholas, the cathedral was completed in 1335.
These historic walls bore witness to religious life and the hustle and bustle of the Stecknitz river boatmen, who transported their goods along the river. Today, the quiet courtyards and dreamy alleyways invite you to explore the history and be transported back in time.
Immerse yourself in the secrets of the Cathedral Quarter and be enchanted by its incomparable atmosphere.
